Talent Unlimited

Several colorful paintings hanging on a gallery wall

Tonight I attended a reception for a couple of artists accepting a local award. They both delivered short speeches—one noting she’d started her career on a different path, then switched to art over time.

At one point, she started to say, “As a young artist”—but then caught and corrected herself. “I was never a young artist,” she said.

People laughed, as they generally do whenever age is mentioned.

Then an older woman toward the back of the room shouted, “Yeah!” And that’s all it took. The crowd cheered in solidarity, recognizing that talent has no age limit.
