A co-worker asked AI for an image of “an older adult working at a computer.” The resulting picture got some things right. But the “older adult”? Hmm.

It was a stereotyped caricature of a woman with gray hair in classic 1800s style, with a little bun at the crown. A second query included “with contemporary haircut and clothing.” Then the picture made sense.

Here’s a project I’d love to see: What if we submitted that original query every month for the next 10 years? We could watch how the pictures change over time, and see when they catch up with reality.
