We’re All Learning
There are many ways to #FlipTheScript on ageism. Like responding wisely when you hear an age-biased joke—whether the ageism is obvious and overt, or lurking under the surface.
Here’s a wonderful script-flip I heard at On Aging, in Orlando, when Myechia Minter-Jordan (CEO of AARP) was being interviewed by Connie Chung. As the conversation turned toward older adults and technology, Chung tossed out one of those laugh-at-me-I’m-older lines: “Some of us are just clueless,” she chuckled.
But Minter-Jordan was right there with the perfect response: “We’re all lifelong learners,” she said.
That one’s going into my arsenal.
