Turn It Around

A professionally dressed woman facing away from us, toward a revolving door

The first time I heard a recruiter say their general preference was to hire recent college graduates, “Because they’re up on the newest technologies,” I thought, hold on—you know those technologies keep changing, right?

What will you do with these new hires five years down the road, when somebody else is up on “the latest”? Throw them out—along with their other skills and organizational knowledge? Keep starting over?

That script truly needs to be flipped, especially when quality training opportunities—instead of revolving doors—increase employees’ engagement, not just their knowledge, and experienced talent is a competitive edge.
