Take the Lead
Imagine looking back and seeing sexist and racist jokes in your company’s old ads. So embarrassing. Part of you’d want to say, “Those were the times we were in.”
But a bigger part would wish your organization had been at the forefront, asserting, “This is harmful to humanity, and we’re not going to participate.” You’d wish your campaigns had led the charge.
Now’s your opportunity. Cut the “grandma” jokes and the generational stereotypes. Make it clear that you respect and understand experience, and that we all learn from each other.
Avoid future embarrassment: Help lead the age-friendly movement now.

Note: I wrote this piece 👆🏼 to paste into the comments whenever I see ageist campaigns on social media. Like the Welch’s ad that suggests “grandma” can’t write a status that makes sense.
Or the AARP video that suggests the generational-stereotype labels hanging over two individuals’ heads are an indication that everyone “that age” thinks and acts the same.
Or the Revenue Hero bit that uses that awful “Sure Grandma, now let’s get you to bed” meme, which suggests there’s no reason to listen to older adults.
Please feel free to copy and paste it whenever you see this stuff, too.
