Not a Good Sign
A local sign says, “LOOK for kids and seniors.” To me, it fails on several fronts.
First: At a glance, all a driver can read is “LOOK.” Deciphering the smaller, fainter font calls for taking your eyes—and concentration—off the road for several seconds.
Second: It uses that word “seniors,” which, research shows, associates being older with being frail and incompetent.
Third: Grouping older adults with children suggests … what? We’re all dashing into the street to chase an errant Frisbee?
And finally: Shouldn’t drivers watch for everyone? Dog walkers? Cyclists?
How about this: LOOK FOR PEOPLE AND PETS
