A Weird Word

The word “geezer” has a weird etymology that has something to do with “disguise.” Wherever it’s from, it’s generally delivered as an insult—though I did hear of someone who found a fun place for it.

He and a group of friends (all older) worked out together, went for runs, joined races—stuff like that—and they called themselves “Geezer Jocks.” I think there was even a newsletter.  

I kind of like that, in spite of myself. But would I join the Geezer Jocks? Wear the jersey? Well … I don’t know.

To me that word still has cooties.
